The Meredith Lions Club
The Meredith Lions Club, originally chartered as the Inter-Lakes Lions Club, was organized by Theodore A. Wilkie on March 14, 1957 with 129 members. Charter Night was held on April 24, 1957 with District Governor T. Borden Walker making the presentation. The Bristol Lions Club was our sponsor.
Our Lions Club is governed by a Board of Directors, consisting of the president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, Lion tamer, tail twister, three directors, membership chairperson and a LEO advisor. Officers are elected annually for a term coinciding with the Lions fiscal year, which is July to June. Board of Director meetings are held the second Tuesday of every month, following the Business meeting. All members are invited to attend.
Nomination of club officers and directors are held in March. A nomination committee is appointed by the King Lion and submits the names of candidates to the membership at the March meeting. At this time, nominations may be made from the floor. The election is held in April and officers take their posts on July 1.
The Meredith Lions Club raises funds in a variety of ways. These monies are distributed into two different accounts: administrative and charity. Administrative funds are raised through dues, raffles, the tail twister and equipment rentals, and pay for the operation of the club. Charitable funds are raised through our various fundraisers and are strictly for charitable purposes.
Club projects and activities are originated and conducted by club committees under the direction of a committee chairperson, appointed by the King Lion. Administrative committees are set up to work on operational projects and programs, while activity committees are set up to meet community needs and provide community, district and international services. Chairpersons report their activities to the Board of Directors and the club membership.
Membership in the Meredith Lions Club means working together with others in a spirit of fellowship, while striving towards a common goal. Members are welcome to make suggestions, voice opinions and take the initiative regarding their capacity for leadership. All members, whenever possible, are expected to give freely of their time, attend all meetings, be available for committee assignments and to support all club officers and functions.
Any member is welcome to invite guests to attend meetings. Meals for guests may be paid for by the inviting Lion or the club. The inviting Lion is responsible for introducing the guest during the general introduction period.
The Meredith Lions clubs requires each member to pay dues. These dues are set by the Board of Directors based on the clubs needs and the needs of Lions Club International. Dues are billed semi-annually.

Extension Award: given for outstanding efforts in formation of new Lions clubs
Year-round Growth Award: for recruiting three or more members in one year
